WISE is a program offered to YHS seniors to get an internship in any topic they find interesting. Over the school year, these seniors get hands-on experience working in their fields of interest. At the end of the year, all the students present their hard work at a symposium, using colorful posters to show off their journey through the WISE program. Here are the words of three successful WISE students and their words of wisdom to younger students.
Ava Guglielmo
Ava got her internship in elementary education to get hands-on experience about what it is like to work with young children. She said that her favorite part of WISE was getting to learn more about the diverse ideologies and ethics that different teachers use in their classrooms. Her favorite part of the program was being able to work with elementary students and helping them learn. Her advice to any younger students who want to become a teacher is to follow your passion regardless of what other people say.
Kailey O’Connell
Kailey got her internship in communications and likes how the WISE program allows her to focus on what she wants to do in the future. During her time in her communications internship, Kailey learned that anything is possible in communications and to put your own spin on existing ideas.
Wolf Keane
Wolf got their internship in animation and loves that they got to have control over what they learned. Being an animator has been their dream job since they were a child, and getting an internship in the field allowed them to learn more about animation using a hands-on approach. Their favorite part of WISE was when their animation was released. To any inspiring artists, their words of advice is to always practice your skills as much as possible.
