The Meaning Behind Heart Emojis

The Meaning Behind Heart Emojis

Heart emojis have become ubiquitous in text and social media, often expressing love, appreciation, support, and more. But what do different heart emojis mean and how do they reflect our emotions? Let’s take a closer look at the meanings of the different colors of hearts.

❤️: The classic red heart emoji is the most popular and has the most straightforward meaning, conveying true love, passion, and affection. When someone sends you a red heart emoji, it is a sign that they love you or care about you. It is often used romantically or with best friends.

💛: The yellow heart emoji has a slightly different meaning as a sign of friendship and happiness. When someone sends you a yellow heart emoji, they are expressing their devotion and appreciation for your friendship. It is a symbol of a close and caring relationship, often used in messages between friends.

💚: The green heart emoji can be used to express jealousy or relate to nature. If someone sends you a green heart, they may be indicating that they are envious of something. Contrarily, green is also the color of growth and renewal, especially in relation to nature, so the green heart can show a positive change in your life or love for Mother Earth.

💙: The blue heart emoji is a symbol of trust and loyalty. When someone sends you a blue heart emoji, they are indicating that they have confidence and believe in you. It is often used to encourage and show support for a friend.

💜: The purple heart emoji is a symbol of wealth and luxury, stemming from the color’s association with royalty. It can also indicate a sense of mystery and sophistication. The purple heart is often associated with the medal awarded by the US Military of the same name as well as fans of the K-Pop group BTS.

🖤: The black heart emoji is a symbol of grief and morbidity. It is often used to express sympathy but many people use this emoji simply to convey a dark mood. The emoji is now also widely used to express support for BLM.

🤍: The white heart emoji is a symbol of purity and peace, often used in conjunction with the dove or swan emojis. This emoji is related to the black heart in that both can relate to death. However, the white heart touches more on commemorating a loved one rather than the dark aspects tied to death.

Heart emojis can be a powerful way of expressing our feelings digitally. Whether we are expressing love, appreciation, or sadness, heart emojis help us to convey our thoughts in a succinct, yet meaningful way. By understanding the connotations of different heart emojis, we can avoid misunderstandings and feel more comfortable expressing personal feelings when face-to-face conversations are not plausible.
