The Science National Honor Society (SNHS) is an organization for those who have a passion for science. In Yorktown High School, a junior named Olivia Biggs is starting a chapter to provide various services to the school and community.

She was interviewed about the upcoming honor society and talked about its impact on the students and how to get involved.

Interviewer: What inspired you to start the Science National Honor Society?

Olivia: I was talking to some kids from Lakeland and surrounding schools and they were talking about how fun it is so I thought “why don’t we have this in Yorktown?”. We have a Science Research program so it only makes sense that we should have a Science National Honor Society.

Interviewer: How do you think the Science National Honor Society will impact students in the Yorktown Central School District?

Olivia: Not only will this impact science focused students, but students who are interested in STEM in general. It provides opportunities for those who enjoy science.

Interviewer: Do you have a general idea when you will start?

Olivia: About early November.

Interviewer: Who is the advisor and who should you go to for more information?

Olivia: Mrs. Laux and Mr. Seweryn are the advisors and if there are any further questions, those who are interested, feel free to reach out to me.

Interviewer: What are the requirements to join?

Olivia: You have to be either a junior or senior with an 85 overall GPA and 95 GPA in science. Additionally, you have to be enrolled in an honor or AP science class.
