As the stands rattled and the clock ticked down, family and students of YHS watched as YHS emerged victorious in a major win against Rye that would make 2024’s senior night one for the books.
Watching as someone who personally never took a specific interest in the sport of lacrosse, I felt as if the passion of the sport infected everyone around me. Every play made and every goal scored created an electric feeling both on the field and in the stands. You could tell how much this night meant both to the players and their families, considering that this is the last season for some of their players.
The game began on an incredibly high note with an amazing goal scored by midfielder #10, Chad Bowen. Starting off this game with an amazing goal really kick-started the energy and electricity within the players, and that could be seen all throughout the game. Other goals made by #12 Gianluca Marchini and #2 Ryan Vogel made the crowd go wild and really amplified the spirit of the YHS lacrosse team. Almost after every goal scored, the teammates made sure to celebrate by either patting the back of the scoring player or doing silly gestures to commemorate the goal made.
The leading scorers throughout the game include #15 JT Carney with two goals, #22 Dylan DelVecchio with two goals, and an astonishing four goals made by #4 Nicholas Carducci. Ending the game with a score of 14-4 against a powerhouse such as Rye is really seen as a great accomplishment made by the YHS boys lacrosse team.
After their victorious win, it was of course time for the Senior ceremony in which the team honored both the senior player and their family for being on this incredible journey with the YHS lacrosse team. Emotions flew high as the seniors walked down the turf, taking pictures with their loved ones trying to commemorate their memories made with this team.
In the end, after experiencing this game, I was pleasantly shocked at how passionate and lively the sport of lacrosse truly is. This year’s 2024 senior night was one well-deserved for the books.
