Every year, the Yorktown High School girls lacrosse team shows their success through their hard work at practices and drive to win in games. This season, the Yorktown girls lacrosse team went through a terrific journey due to their determination, teamwork, dedication, and push toward greatness.
Their energy started well from their very first game as a new team on the field. Building a new team after losing vital seniors from the 2023 season was initially hard to get used to, but the girls overcame that challenge and worked together extremely well. On the field, each player compliments each other’s strengths to build a strong dynamic.
The four senior captains who led this year were Reese Bruno, Ali Passarella, Maggie Appelle, and Reileigh McEnroe. Their strategies and inspiring leadership set the team’s spirit. They helped navigate through tough games and continued to motivate their teammates.
Senior Ali Passarella commented, “I’ve been on the team since freshman year but this year has been something special. Maybe because it’s my senior year and I want to make history, but something about this season feels better than my other ones.” As a senior, the mindset of winning is stronger than anything. Having the ability to go as far as possible in the playoffs would be a rewarding experience for the seniors this season.
The Yorktown Girls Lacrosse 2024 spring season hasn’t ended yet, but the playoffs have just begun. With their precise passing, locked-down defense, and fast doges, there is no doubt they’ll make it far in the playoffs. Going as far as states would be an unforgettable accomplishment for the girls.
Three of the four senior captions are continuing their lacrosse journey in college. Reese Bruno is going to D1 Binghamton University, Reileigh McEnroe is going to D1 to the University of Maryland, and Maggie Appelle is going D3 to the University of Scranton. Reese Bruno said, “Thinking about going to college for lacrosse excites me but I know when I get to college it won’t be the same relationship I have with my home team. I’m really proud of my success these past years and I know we all are working hard to strive in the playoffs. I’m excited to see our hard work pay off.” It’s an honor to be able to play at a higher level with the sport you love, but focusing on this season and victory is more important to the girls.
As the season went on, the bonds grew stronger and the team’s drive for being champions was fueled. On May 20th, the girls had a match against Ursuline. This back-to-back match was tough and almost could’ve ended their season but Yorktown came back to win the match and is now able to continue their season.
The eagerness to watch the Yorktown girls lacrosse team advance in the playoffs is intense throughout the community. Every pass and every goal counts. While pushing through each game, the skill of the team continues to show. With each win, the anticipation grows. The Yorktown girls lacrosse team is dominating.
