On Thursday, May 2nd, Yorktown’s varsity boys tennis team traveled to Bedford to play against Fox Lane at 4:30. Although YHS was facing one of the strongest teams in the league, we were heading into the match on a back-to-back winning streak. “We’ve had a very good season,” said coach Dayer. “We are currently 7 and 2, and the co-captains George Whalen and Aiden Hirsch have done an excellent job of keeping the team motivated.”
The team arrived at Fox Lane with a clear goal in sight. “Our goal is to win, which we know we can do if we play our best,” said Mike Munson. The team has consistently shown this mentality throughout the season with their wins.
YHS divided the team into 3 singles games and 4 doubles games. Aidan Hirsch, Mike Chitu, and Johannes Soltau each played in singles. James Rennie was paired with Mike Munson, Ryan Gopie with Brandon Zhong, George Whalen with Ratan Galleja, and Andrew Thomas with Nikhil Sundar. Yorktown put up strong individual performances throughout each game and did very well on their returns. Unfortunately, Fox Lane finished on top, narrowly winning 4-3.
